Generation East London was approached by their client to provide an Edge Protection solution for the New Fair Havens Hospice in Southend, Essex. Building work on the site started in October 2018 and is expected to be completed in February 2020.
Generation knew the best Edge Protection for this project was Web Fix and I-Beam Clamps, as they were working with steel frame components; I-Beam Clamps were used where Web Fix or sockets were not suitable. The Web Fix was used with Standard Panels, to ensure health and safety regulations were met. The materials were on a long-term hire of 20-weeks.
Web Fix is the most popular method of fixing to steel frames, with the bracket offering a vertical and horizontal indexing facility. Due to the technical input and detailed layout drawings before material being used, the Web Fix components had predesignated positions ensuring an efficient working programme. The panels used are the most efficient edge protection system on the market, offering the widest fixing centre at 2700mm meaning that fewer components are needed for installation and vastly reducing the installation time.
The project was intense as major installations took place, as well as bad weather conditions; however, this was no challenge for our client as they have vast experience in building healthcare environments, having worked on Arthur Rank Hospice and the East Anglian Children’s Hospice.
Generation East London ensured a seamless flow to the project as they have built close working relationships with field engineers and site management team. The success of this build was especially important as the New Fair Havens Hospice has been funded by charity donations and will eventually be caring for thousands of local people across Southend, Castle Point and Rochford who have an illness that cannot be cured.
