Generation Hire & Sale Provide Cross-laminated Timber Edge Protection For New Northstowe Education Campus

| Case Studies

Generation East London was approached by their client to provide an Edge Protection solution at Northstowe Educational Campus in Cambridge. The solution was needed for the early stages of the Educational campus’ development, during the Cross-laminated Timber (CLT) phase; used to form the building structures and building enclosures.

Due to the nature of the job and the use of Cross-laminated Timber (CLT), Generation East London knew the best materials for the job were the Top Fix Dual Stand with Standard and Work-Through Panels. The Work-Through Panels allowed work to be carried out beyond the line of protection whilst still being protected by the same panel. It was a big benefit for our client to be able to access areas that would have otherwise involved the use of mechanical plant.

With the size of the project and the campus being made up of 5 separate plots, it was essential for Generation UK to ensure they worked efficiently and on time. The Top Fix Dual Purpose Stand allowed for a highly visible and efficient solution, with installation utilising four screws, the versatile solution allowed installation within minutes. The Standard panels are the most efficient edge protection system on the market, offering the widest fixing centres at 2700mm, leading to fewer components and vastly reducing the installation time.

Both subcontractor and main contractor will be looking to use these materials on future contracts due to the ease of installation and safety benefits it has to offer, as well eliminating the need for mechanical plants. The materials are currently on a long-term hire of 30-weeks and still counting.
